Karen Kubicina PT DPT OCS ATC
We are thrilled to welcome Karen to the Theatre Arts PT Team! She is a dual credentialed, Certified Athletic Trainer and Doctor of Physical Therapy. She graduated from The University of Toledo with her degree in Athletic Training, and continued on to Long Island University - Brooklyn for PT school. She is also an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and Certified Health Coach. She is passionate about injury prevention in addition to rehabilitation of the whole person.
Karen's professional career has been dedicated to serving performing artists of all types, including in her role as Company Physical Therapist/Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Radio City Rockettes, providing backstage PT to more than 30 Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, as well as her work with American Ballet Theatre. She also serves as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University. When Karen isn’t working, she loves spending time with her husband and 3 kids, and their dachshund, Rocket, and their other (not-a-dachshund) dog, Pascal. She loves volunteering in the community, including coaching her daughter's softball team, and being part of the Westfield Green Team. She loves exercising and riding her Peloton bike, and being active outdoors. |
Sigrid Scruggs, PT DPT
Sigrid founded Theatre Arts PT in 2002 after working for performing arts clinics in Los Angeles and New York City. She is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Natural Sciences/ Behavioral Biology and earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of Southern California.
Sigrid combines her years of ballet and piano experience, academic achievement and extensive training in manual therapy, injury prevention and Pilates-based rehabilitation to rehabilitate dancers, instrumentalists, and athletes. Her success includes members of: New Jersey Ballet, American Repertory Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Students of American Ballet Theatre. She has also worked with many Broadway houses and successfully rehabilitated performers from shows including: Cats, Lion King, Swing, 42nd Street, Chicago and Music Man. During the pandemic, Sigrid joined the Department of Theater & Dance at Montclair State University as Adjunct Faculty. She presented a study at The International Association of Dance Medicine and Science on COVID-19 incidence and effects in the college dance population. |
